How we estimate

Where our numbers come from

Renova gives ranges, not prices. Here is exactly how those ranges are set, what they include, and their limits.

Fixed price ranges, set and checked by people

Every plan is priced inside fixed ranges for each type of room and finish level. These ranges were built from a real, fully costed Perth renovation and cross-checked against published Australian renovation cost guides, including those from hipages, Canstar and Renopage. Renova's plan engine writes your plan from your answers, but it is instructed to stay inside these ranges unless it states why, for example a layout change.

What the ranges include

They don't include appliances, structural work, asbestos removal or your buffer for surprises. Each plan lists its own assumptions and exclusions.

Current ranges

BudgetMid-rangePremium
Main bathroom (6 to 8 m²)$11k to $15k$16k to $22k$30k to $50k
Ensuite$9k to $13k$14k to $20k$20k to $42k
Kitchen (same layout)$12k to $20k$25k to $40k$45k to $80k
Laundry$4k to $8k$8k to $14k$15k to $37k
Rest of house, per m²$120 to $200$200 to $350$350 to $600

Moving the layout typically adds 15 to 25%. A kitchen island adds $4,500 to $9,000. A kitchen in a home built before 2000 often adds $3,000 to $5,000 for older services.

Why a range and not a price

No one can price your renovation exactly without seeing it. Old pipes, wall condition, access, trade availability and the products you choose all move the final number. A range with its assumptions written down is more honest than a single figure, and it gives you a yardstick for every quote you get.

Confidence

Each plan says how confident it is (low, medium or high) and why. For example, confidence is lower for an older home where the wall and pipe condition is unknown until strip-out.

How it gets more accurate

When homeowners finish a job in Renova Ledger, they can choose to share their final costs anonymously. Those real numbers are used to check and update the ranges over time, city by city.

Always get quotes

A Renova plan is an indicative guide, not a quote or a fixed price. Always get quotes from licensed trades, and use the free quote checker to make sure they cover everything.
